In what circumstances the abolition of his office was
decided upon. Say that, his office having become
unnecessary,
it was abolished in accordance with the
usual practice, on grounds of economy and in the
public interests. The Pension Regulations provide
compensation for such cases, and this he has been given.
A special pension is a quite exceptional measure, and
could not be given in his case. Say we will ask Cov.
for a statement of his services, which will be forwarded
to him. Offer to answer enquiries of other Govt. Depts.
saying that we cannot interfere further (in usual
form ). Tell him again to apply to C.A., and say he will
also be noted here for re-employment in case an oppor-
tunity should arise, which is a remote contingency.
Ignore his request for information as to how
he should make his case public. (We are doing what we dan
ne
for him, and will be very foolish to indulge in
public controversy ).
Copy corresp. to Gov. and ask for a statement of hij
services.

to your letter

you inform me that my half-pay leave has been extended until the 31% of October, I beg to express my sincere thanks to you in this matter.
I

My leave had almost expired before thad

services in the Colony of Hong Kong have given the utmost satisfaction, that the abolition of my office is against the wishes of practically the entire population, that I am forced

I do most strongly claim that I should have been informed of the abolition of my office before I left Hong Kong, I feel that
Karst treatment has been
a case
very adopted in cast

and that it is clearly for reconsideration on the grounds that if I am forced to retire on pension under such exceptional circumstances. that the persion should be sufficient to enable me to live, the chance of further employment amidst the extreme competition in England is very remote,
